The top 10 places to visit in Aviemore and Cairngorms National Park

Our top 10 places to visit in Aviemore and Cairngorms National Park

Highland Folk Museum - An attraction for all ages. This open air Museum is a mile in length and an average visit takes four to five hours. The Museum shows how our ancestors lived, built their homes, tilled the soil and how they dressed.

Monarch Country - The TV series ‘Monarch of the Glen’ has shown just what a beautiful part of Scotland this is. Many of the scenes are filmed in the area around us. The area's diversity of landscape and magnificent scenery ranges from the high plateau of the Cairngorms at over four thousand feet in height on the one side, to the wild and remote Monadhliath mountains on the other and along the great sweep of the line of the River Spey through moorland and forest in the south to wider agricultural landscapes in the north east.

Speyside (Loch Garten) Osprey Centre - When ospreys returned to breed in Scotland, this ancient Caledonian pineforest is where they chose to come. The Loch Garten Osprey Centre provides fantastic views of these magnificent birds on the nest, as well as close up views thanks to our non-invasive CCTV camera.

Rothiemurchus - Rothiemurchus is a special place at the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, near Aviemore, in the Scottish Highlands. It offers a warm welcome, stunning scenery and outdoor activities for individuals, families, groups and parties to enjoy.

Highland Wildlife Park - Experience Scottish wildlife as well as international endangered animals of mountains and tundra in the spectacular setting of the Highland Wildlife Park.Drive around the Main Reserve in your own car and then investigate the walk-round area by foot.

Castle Trail - Dramatic ruins, tower houses, magnificent mansions... we are right at the edge of ‘castle country’ and there are over 70 in Grampian Highlands. Eleven of the region's finest great houses and castles are to be found along Scotland's only Castle Trail.

Malt Whisky Trail - A warm welcome awaits you here around Speyside and the Grampian Highlands, home to more than half of Scotland's distilleries, and eight of the most famous are to be found on the the Speyside Malt Whisky Trail, the world's only Malt Whisky Trail.

Waltzing Waters at Newtonmore - The world's most elaborate water, light and music production. 'It's like nothing you've ever seen before ... a triumph of artistry and engineering'. One of the many fun family places to go if you're looking for the best things to do with kids in the Highlands of Scotland

The lovely Strathspey towns and villages of Grantown, Newtonmore, Kingussie, Carrbridge, Nethybridge and Boat of Garten

Enjoy a highland gathering, or one of the many local events and festivals. Notable highland games in the area are at Grantown-on-Spey, Newtonmore, Abernethy and Inverness.
